Power Transmission

Gicam technology can use DED laser resurfacing to restore precision rotating components in power transmission systems, such as gear shafts and housings, cylinder rods, and pump impellers and shafts. It targets only the worn areas—bearing surfaces, splines, and bores—while maintaining concentricity and balance tolerances.

Hardness on the contact surfaces, toughness at the core: a functional material gradient, without treating the entire part.
These sliding parts require high hardness on the contact surfaces while maintaining good toughness in the core. DED enables a functional material gradient: localized cladding only on the friction zones, which avoids the need for heat treatment or an expensive alloy throughout the entire part.

Targeted deposition also limits thermal distortion in these precision parts and reduces finishing work. It offers an excellent cost-performance balance for components subjected to intense tribological wear.
Target hardness → Hard material deposited only on the friction surfaces.
Limited distortion → Localized deposition on a precision part, reduced finish.

FAQ

Why not reinforce the entire drawer?

Because a fully hardened part loses its toughness at its core: DED hardens only the areas subject to friction and preserves the toughness of the rest of the part.

Does targeted deposition cause the part to warp?
