Gicam technology can use DED laser cladding to repair large, expensive components used in the steel, cement, paper, and material handling industries, such as cylinders, bands, rollers, and rollers. It targets only the worn area, without replacing the entire component, to minimize production downtime.

Squeegees and Coating Blades

A custom configuration tailored to each paper machine: refurbishment makes more sense than standard replacement.
Although generally designed as replaceable wear parts, certain long blade holders or doctor blades may experience localized wear or corrosion that may warrant reconditioning rather than systematic replacement, particularly for custom configurations specific to each machine.

DED allows for the selective re-coating of the most heavily stressed areas or the mounting surfaces, extending the service life of components whose length—sometimes several meters—makes complete replacement costly and logistically challenging. This approach is particularly beneficial for older or custom-designed paper machines, where standard replacement parts are not always readily available.
Targeted reconditioning → Worn or stressed areas of the fastener are re-hardened, without complete replacement.
Relevant for older machines → Useful when standard replacement parts are not readily available.

FAQ

Why recondition a squeegee bar instead of replacing it?

Because these components are often several meters long and custom-configured for each machine, replacing them entirely is costly and logistically challenging, making targeted reconditioning a viable option.
