Heavy Industry & Process

Gicam technology can use DED laser cladding to repair large, expensive components used in the steel, cement, paper, and material handling industries, such as cylinders, bands, rollers, and rollers. It targets only the worn area, without replacing the entire component, to minimize production downtime.

Cutting and Shearing Tools

A standard steel tool body, a high-performance cutting edge: hybrid manufacturing optimizes the cost-to-service-life ratio.
Shear blades, slitting knives, and hot-cutting tools experience highly localized edge wear along the cutting edge, while the body of the tool remains generally intact. DED allows for the selective cladding of only the cutting edge with a very high-hardness material, without heat-treating the entire workpiece, thereby minimizing distortion.

This hybrid approach combines a standard, less expensive steel tool body with a high-performance cutting edge, optimizing the cost-to-service-life ratio. It also allows the tool to be resharpened and re-coated multiple times over its service life, rather than replacing it every time the cutting edge wears down.
Reloading the edge only → No heat treatment of the entire part; minimal distortion.
Réaffûtage répété → L'outil peut être rechargé plusieurs fois au cours de sa vie.

FAQ

Does regrinding the cutting edge affect the rest of the tool?

No, the DED only heat-treats the edge area, which limits distortion in the rest of the tool body.

Can a shearing tool be recharged multiple times?
