Heavy Industry & Process

Gicam technology can use DED laser cladding to repair large, expensive components used in the steel, cement, paper, and material handling industries, such as cylinders, bands, rollers, and rollers. It targets only the worn area, without replacing the entire component, to minimize production downtime.

Lining and Internal Components of Ball Mills

Parts that are usually replaced as a matter of routine: what if certain custom configurations were better off being remanufactured instead?
Although generally designed as replaceable wear parts in standard foundries, certain complex liners or low-production components—such as lifters and classification plates—exhibit localized wear that may warrant reconditioning rather than systematic replacement, particularly for custom or non-standard configurations.

DED allows for the selective rebuilding of the most heavily stressed areas with alloys resistant to abrasion and ball impact, extending the service life of parts that would otherwise be scrapped after a single production run. This approach is of particular interest to cement plants with older or custom-designed mills, where standard replacement parts are no longer readily available—the focus here is more on extending the service life of hard-to-find parts than on repairing very large production runs.
Targeted reconditioning → Recharging the most heavily used areas, rather than systematic replacement.
Relevant for specific equipment → Particularly useful when standard replacement parts are no longer readily available.

FAQ

Is this application already in production, or is it still in the exploratory phase?

This is an area that Sotimeco is exploring, which is particularly relevant for older or specialized crusher configurations where standard replacement parts are no longer readily available—to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis with our teams.

Why not just replace a worn-out shield with a new, standard part?
