Heavy Industry & Process

Gicam technology can use DED laser cladding to repair large, expensive components used in the steel, cement, paper, and material handling industries, such as cylinders, bands, rollers, and rollers. It targets only the worn area, without replacing the entire component, to minimize production downtime.

Lining and rollers for rotary kilns

A one-of-a-kind, custom-made part with a very long lead time for replacement: repairing it on site rather than replacing it makes all the difference.
These massive forged parts ensure the smooth operation of the rotary kiln and experience gradual wear on their contact surfaces due to continuous friction and the considerable loads transmitted, while the body of the part remains structurally sound. DED allows for localized rebuilding of the bearing surface, restoring the geometry without having to replace the entire bearing shell or roller.

This repair, carried out during a scheduled furnace shutdown, avoids the need to replace a single, custom-manufactured part—which would entail long manufacturing lead times and very high transportation and logistics costs given its size and weight. This is a major issue for industrial availability: an unplanned furnace shutdown at a cement plant results in significant direct production costs.
On-site repair → Service performed during a scheduled furnace shutdown, without remelting the part.
Custom-made part preserved → Avoids the need for replacement, which would involve very long manufacturing and logistics lead times.

FAQ

Does repairing a rotary kiln lining require rebuilding the entire kiln?

Non, cette réparation de fait pendant un arrêt programmé du four et recharge uniquement la portée de roulement endommagée, sans refondre ni refabriquer l'ensemble de la pièce.

Why does it take so long to get a bandage replaced?
