Power Transmission

Gicam technology can use DED laser resurfacing to restore precision rotating components in power transmission systems, such as gear shafts and housings, cylinder rods, and pump impellers and shafts. It targets only the worn areas—bearing surfaces, splines, and bores—while maintaining concentricity and balance tolerances.

Pump Wear Rings and Sealing Rings

A ring that is not a standard replacement part on an older pump: replacing it restores the original clearance, sometimes with a material that is even better than the original.
These components ensure the proper operating clearance between the rotor and the pump housing and are subject to wear due to friction and erosion, particularly when handling fluids containing particles. DED allows these rings to be overlaid with alloys resistant to adhesive wear and cavitation, restoring the original operating clearance without replacing the entire part or, in some cases, the pump housing if the ring is integrated into it.

This localized repair is particularly beneficial when the ring is not a readily available standard replacement part, especially in older or custom-designed pumps. It also extends service life compared to the original part by selecting a repair material better suited to actual operating conditions (abrasion, corrosion, cavitation).
Restored original assembly → Ring refilled without replacing the part, or even the pump body if it is integrated into it.
More suitable material → Potentially longer service life than the original, depending on abrasion, corrosion, or cavitation.

FAQ

Why should you have a ring resized instead of replacing it?

Because on older or custom-designed pumps, the bushing isn't always a standard replacement part that's readily available: remanufacturing restores the clearance without having to wait for a replacement part.

Can the deposited material be different from the original material?
