Energy & Environment

Gicam technology can use DED laser cladding to repair critical components in the energy and environmental sectors, such as wind turbine shafts and hubs, turbine blades, wellheads, and process valves. It enables targeted cladding and anti-corrosion coatings on expensive equipment with long manufacturing lead times.

Shafts and Rotors for Pumps and Compressors (Oil & Gas)

Localized erosion and corrosion on high-value-added rotating shafts: re-coating targets the affected area, not the entire part.
These high-value-added rotating components are subject to localized erosion and corrosion at seal contact surfaces and in areas where the fluid passes through—fluids that are often laden with abrasive particles or corrosive gases.

DED enables targeted cladding of these areas with resistant alloys (Inconel, Stellite) without having to remanufacture the entire shaft, which is often machined to tight tolerances and made from expensive base materials.

This approach is part of a strategy focused on maintenance and extending service life rather than replacement—which is essential given the long lead times for procuring this type of critical rotating equipment. It also allows a single standard shaft to be adapted to different operating conditions by selecting a specific filler material.
Targeted resurfacing → Allows for the repair of seal surfaces without having to rebuild the entire shaft.
Adaptability → A single standard shaft that can be adapted to different operating conditions depending on the filler material.

FAQ

Is it possible to repair a multistage pump shaft without replacing it?

The DED can repair only the damaged seal seats and fluid-passage areas, without having to remanufacture the entire shaft, which was machined to tight tolerances.

Does the DED allow a shaft to be adapted to a new process fluid?
